Designated Giving
Directing Your Gift
Donors may choose to direct their contribution to a specific agency or River Region United Way initiative. A minimum gift of $25 is required, and designated gifts are applied as the first dollars credited toward that organization’s annual allocation.
Designations to Non–United Way Agencies
If an employer’s campaign allows gifts to organizations outside of River Region United Way, the minimum designation to a non–United Way agency is $1,000. At least 50% of that gift (after processing and fundraising costs) must remain with River Region United Way to support its network of partner agencies.
Eligible designated agencies must be qualified 501(c)(3) health and human service organizations. Churches, schools, athletic teams, environmental groups, and similar entities are not eligible for designation.
Additional Guidelines to Know
- Corporate matching funds cannot be applied to designated gifts.
- Designations must support an organization’s general operating fund and cannot be restricted to specific programs, events, or projects.
- Gifts made through a donor-advised fund may only be designated to River Region United Way agencies or initiatives. These gifts are treated as first dollars in, are distributed without identifying the individual donor, and are not receipted by River Region United Way.
Any contribution that falls outside these guidelines will be distributed through River Region United Way’s established allocation process. When a qualifying designated gift is received and processed, River Region United Way forwards the funds, less applicable costs, to the selected organization.
You have the option to designate all or part of your gift to one or more affiliate agencies or focus areas. Simply use the designation code listed next to the agency name or focus area, below. Donors who wish to designate their gifts must do so at the time the initial pledge commitment is made.
