Q. Where can I take my dresses to be donated?
A. New and gently-worn dresses can be dropped off at any Jim Massey’s Cleaners location in the River Region.
Q. Is there a certain date by which dresses need to be dropped off?
A. In order to have dresses cleaned in time for this year’s iHeart Prom event, dresses need to be dropped off by February 29. However, Jim Massey’s Cleaners accepts dresses year-round.
Q. Are there any particular sizes or styles that are needed?
A. Dresses in all sizes, styles and colors are welcome. However, we do have a special need for plus-sized gowns.
Q. Can I get a receipt for tax purposes?
A. Jim Massey’s Cleaners can provide you with a receipt to show that you donated the dress. Because the business is not a tax-exempt nonprofit, you will want to check with your tax advisor to find out if the donation is tax deductible.
Q. I need a prom dress – when is iHeart Prom?
A. The event will be held Saturday, March 12 from 8 am to noon at The City of St. Jude gymnasium, 2084 W. Fairview Avenue in Montgomery. (UPDATE: Due to road closures in the area for the Montgomery Marathon, the event location had to be changed from Embassy Suites.)
Q. How much does it cost to get a dress?
A. Nothing – all gowns are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q. Do I have to have proof of income to get a dress?
A. Absolutely not. iHeart Prom aims to make prom more affordable for everyone, regardless of income.
Q. Can I bring my mom/sister/boyfriend/best friend?
A. Each teen will be allowed only one guest to accompany her in line and into the event. No others will be allowed in.
Q. I have to work that morning. Can someone else come and choose a dress for me?
A. Unfortunately, the only people allowed to choose dresses will be the teens wearing them to prom. Representatives won’t be allowed to select dresses for people who can’t attend the event.
Q. Will there be members of the media or cameras there?
A. Media will be in attendance, as well as photographers for the event partners. A parent or guardian is encouraged to accompany each teen, although it is not required. Anyone entering the event will automatically be giving consent for photos and/or videos to be taken for use in future promotions of the event. However, there will be no photography allowed in dressing areas.
Q. What if it’s raining, or cold?
A. Those coming to the event may have to line up outside the venue and should be prepared to wait in line for up to 2-3 hours. We ask that you check the forecasted temperature and dress accordingly, and check our Facebook page (iHeart Prom RR) for any updates.
